cheekymonkey68
I went out this morning to find twister my speckledy hen didnt get out of the cube, and when I looked in she was pancaked on the roosting bars. I picked her up and she was not at all good, so I cuddled her up to me and went to the house, unfortunately after a couple of mins she died in my arms I didnt really know what to do, as we've had no real signs of illness, and she just started laying again after her winter break. I just cuddled her for a while and told he how much I loved her and thanked her for all her lovely brown eggs, and popped her in a cardboard box until I could get back from work... My other girls are looking for her still, its sad to watch.
Alis girls
its horrid and I do feel for you. At least she died being cuddled - not nice for you but comforting for her. Your other ladies will be okay. Ali x

Mrs_B
So sorry to hear about your hen, it's so sad when you lose a pet. I had one of my hens pts today and there's so many tears in my house this evening. You obviously loved your girl very much and told her some very lovely words. Keep strong! Huge hugs xx

mimi5
RIP Twister. It's difficult to lose a hen, but at least you were with her and it wasn't a drawn out illness. Sending you a hug.
redsunset
That is so sad....but you were with her. Horrible when we lose a seemingly healthy chook and oft blame ourselves thinking we should have noticed, but we can't always. It does happen. Hope you are feeling a little better (and you gave her a lovely perfect life remember).

Flowerpot
I am so sorry Cheekymonkey68 I lost my first hen this week but I came home to find her dead. I am so glad you were able to be with your girl. Now I have just got two new hens and I feel as bad for my old girls as I did when Rosie died because they are so confused about the changes. I thought it would help them to get new ones sooner rather than later. Now I have done it I am not sure anymore. I hope all settles down for you. cheekymonkey68
Thanks everyone for your kind replies! I was so sad to lose my beautiful speckledy hen, she was a gentle soul I have to say that it was interesting timing, as I had booked in to rescue 3 BHWT hens on Saturday. Well needless to say fate gave me a 4th Chicken as the chicken loaders accidentally put another one in the basket... well I couldnt make them take her out again could I so now I have Mary Mungo Midge and Freebie too. Roll on intros which I've never done before - another chicken learning curve.
