patsylabrador
One of my teeny weeny chickens has taken against woodpigeons. If she spots one she chases them, all squawking and flapping. They are too slow thinking to fly away and just run in front of her. The other day she pulled out some pigeon feathers. We also have a curious magpie that sidles up and she chased that off too. That had the sense to fly away. I suppose it's territorial and she always looks a little bit proud. They're not cuddly chickens at all but they will come up and chat when I'm trying to read in the garden. Probably telling me their strategy for getting rid of the pigeons. Beantree
We have a cockerel that sits in a tree out of sight. When the sparrows wander underneath he drops down on them. I know he has caught one because I caught his hens eating the remains of it.
Cat tails
My three bantams have declared war on the crows and jackdaws ( or anything stupid enought to fly into my garden) They will stare the birds out of my pear tree with their little beady eyes. dancing cloud
My two have formed an alliance with visiting birds - visitors drop seed from the feeder, chickens eat it! They run over to the feeder as soon as anything lands on it. They don't chase anything away, not the pigeons, not the squirrels, not even the blackbirds and crows that eat the hen food . Think my two little darlings are just too fat and lazy (and they know there will always be more hen food )
Sentiant
I'm loving these little tales, I can just imagine a rooster lurking I the low branches of the old oak in my garden ready to pounce on my girls and sausage dogs!
