jesschicken24
I know one of the signs that a hen is ready to lay her first egg is that their wattles and comb get bigger and go a darker red. However, being a Silkie she hasn't got a comb and her wattles are black but I have noticed Hedwig's wattles are looking bigger. What do you think? MaryHen
I haven't got Silkies ( wish I had they are sooooo cute!) but I noticed with Doris, who started laying yesterday that over the last week her wattles have got really large as did her comb. Are your silkies doing the 'squat' when you try and stroke them?
jesschicken24
No signs of squating yet or nesting but if larger wattles on a silkie is a sign, I hope I won't have to wait too long for other signs. Fingers crossed
jesschicken24
Put a little camera in the coop this morning so I could see what the girls were up to when they went in. Didn't have to wait long for Hedwig to come in, push one of the others off the nest, sit herself down and start arranging the bedding. jesschicken24
I might try and post some of the videos later, are there any rules about posting links to videos?

MaryHen
Go Hedwig!! All of mine are laying now and I've had 4 double yokers too; Grizelda layed one yesterday, it was double the size of her normal eggs, no wonder it took her an hour to lay!!! jesschicken24
Look another one! I'm pretty sure this one's from Hedwig too. The others don't look quite as mature, though they are catching up fast. They aren't crouching either.

Luvachicken
Clever Hedwig. It looked like a big egg compared to the size of your silkie ? All eggs are fab and I'm very
