liz.dudley
Now the clocks have changed (and I'm back to work teaching this week) the girls had gone to bed before Josh and I got home to give them their corn This will probably be the case most of the week (hopefully hubby can be persuaded to give them their corn when he works from home) Will they be ok without it? Cat tails
Mine get their corn as breakfast, so no problem with getting to bed. Rather waking up too early is another matter.
gavclojak
The pellets will be perfectly adequate , lots of people don't give their hens any scratch treats. Corn is nice before bed when it's very cold as it raises their tempreture while they digest it overnight but is isn't essential as it isn't particularly nutritious, everything they need is in a good quality pellet. kinsk
Agree it isn't essential, it's a treat, so they will do fine without it. If they were that desperate they would wait up. The Black Rock I adopted from my Mother when her companion died certainly does. The other night she was at on the gate waiting for me to come home, then ran to the feed shed. This was about 8pm so the others were long gone to bed, then I heard her chucking others off the perches so she could get to her preferred roosting spot. We don't call her Darth Vader for nothing!
