PixieDust
I visited a Pets at Home on Thursday, which sells chickens. Whilst I would never buy from them, they had what I think we're bantam Sablepoots. Really had to tell myself No as they were so cute. I also had to tell myself I didn't have a second house or run or even quite enough room to segregate in the current run. Also, as it turns out, I got stuck in the terrible traffic after the snow, which I never saw, at took over 4 hrs to get home. When I mentioned it to OH, rather than the "you can't have any more" that I expected, he said that it was a good job I hadn't as they would have been extremely stressed on the journey. They were so pretty and cute with their feet feathers
Valkyrie
Sounds like you have indeed. Add them to the future list because that's what I do. I have been told no more till we move. So that is my carrot. Now the list is getting ever longer as I discover another handsome bird!

PixieDust
OH originally thought I should get Pekins Bantams and I really wanted some lavender and black ones. They he talked me out of them. I still want a Copper Black Maran as I think even the hybrids are stunning looking. I would also love to get more Columbines as I think the feather combinations are lovely. I think I need a large field and a run 4 times the size. I also think I will have to dream on...... Beantree
Think someone on here confirmed what I have suspected for a while PixieDust, that Copper Black Marans are pure bred French Marans, they just don't have a UK breed standard in that colour so, as such, have the feathered feet of the genuine French Marans rather than the featherless feet of the UK bred Marans. You will find Marans very flighty. Ours move between enclosures as they feel like it and I'm sure, if it entered their heads, they could clear the enclosure outer fence at 1.8 metres. They are all laying and that extra weight hasn't slowed them down at all.
daxigirl
My Eccles is a lovely huge girl, same size as Kitty Orp, always good for a squish, not the most prolific of layers, she stopped in August. Lovely eggs they are my favourites out of them all, (James Bonds too). Pets at Home doesn't sell chickens down here, not fair.
Chortle Chook
Thank goodness Pets at Home and Notcutts have no chooks around here at the moment or my downsizing plans might all go awry. (Now how do I know they have no chooks at the moment . . . I went to sneak a peak just this weekend )
