Alis girls
I think I am on a roll with rants, so will try n keep it short. OH is a British born Cypriot. When we were young (!) if we went to Cyprus he had to have an exit visa otherwise he'd have been put in the army. I had visions of waving him off at Larnaca airport. Fast forward many years and hes too old for all that now. They wouldnt give him a desk job - but I have 2 sons 19 and 13 and both born here, schooled here and since ES was 16 he needs an exit visa. Last time we went OH and ES had to take a morning out of our hols to go to town hall and get a visa. What a faff. We were told you couldnt get one in UK but you can but only lasts till ES is 26. So today OH went into town with;_ 1 My passport and my old passport 2 His Passport and old one 3 ES's passport and old one 4 letters from 2 schools and uni 5 utility bill 6 P60's x 2 7 copy of birth certificate of ES 8 bank statement 9 kitchen sink Well long story short - he was misinformed by the embassy - he should have bought utility bills for last 15 years (not sure how that proves ES was in UK all that time even if we were!! Thankfully cos they are so incompitant that wasnt needed. And in 3 yrs we'll have to do it all again for YS As I said to OH - "dont wish to diss your people but they are &^%$£*()" or words to that extent. And breathe. Valkyrie
He would be right. Who on earth keeps utility bills for 15 years?!!! I did want to write something else but it may have been moderated so thought twice about it! I'm waiting for the day when I'm told my driving licence isn't sufficient ID. I have an ancient one and no photo.
Chicken shack
My DD doesn't have a passport and doesn't drive so hasn't got a driving licence either. To get a job now you have to provide one to prove your not an illegal.

Also handy to have for proof of age etc
soapdragon
I have no photographic proof of ID either.....passport expired and not re newed (on account of the fact that you don't need one for Devon!) and an old pink paper driving license. Hasn't been a problem yet but I can see the day when it will be .
Valkyrie
Until the Devonshire peeps demand Home Rule for Devon! Yes my passport expired long ago. I don't want to go abroad any more. I hate flying and I'm not going in a tunnel either. There's lots to see here and I don't need hot weather because I wilt if it gets into the high 70's! It's frustrating OH as he'd like to go to the US or Canada again. Well yes, I love both, but I'm not going and that's that! So until we move house I'll just have my raggy driver's licence without the horrible photo!!!
Ain't Nobody Here
That sounds a ridiculous list of things to have to produce . I'm hanging onto my paper driving licence for dear life too .
Alis girls
It is ridiculous - you need less documentation to prove your are entitled to NHS healthcare. I resent having to prove all this - hes British for goodness sake . So if you see a picture of a blond stroppy middle aged English woman with a Greek surname on the tabloids being imprisoned in Cyprus for throwing a wobbler - its probably me. chickencam
This seems ridiculous, if they are Beitish they are British surely? Another one with a paper driving license here, I do have a valid passport though, but apart from using as ID for an internal flight last year it has never been used for travel just as ID
