What have you all been making...part two...

Recommended Posts

Love the hat BTW Cat tails.

Thanks Luv! And the rest of course too!

Was a nice change of things. First ever real hat I made (once made a nursing hat, for a baby, that looked like... well... it was funny, but not family forum friendly enough to post a picture).

And I used quite a number of stitches I never used before. Like the foundation treble crochet. Instead of making a whole chain of singles and working from those, you crochet a string of trebles. Gives a nice result.

What kit did you buy? I bought one this week too from Solway Woolscapes. It arrived Monday and looks awesome. They seemed very reasonable compared to some. Sheep scene. It was £10.95 for kit and £12.95 for one she had done so bought one of each, the completed one as a present complete with 2 mounts for that price.

The Solway ones are gorgeous, what amazing effects they achieve, you could walk through that countryside.

Shame they're not nearer it would be amazing to do a workshop :D

I bought a little bird felting kit from Hobbycraft once.

I stabbed myself loads and my bird is dead flat and doesn't look like a bird at all :(

Too difficult a hobby for me .... and painful.

Would love to see what you all make with the felting :D

Also ask them if they have ex demo machines - I have seen them advertised too in some of these online places as ex demos. They use them at shows and then sell them.

I was on a while ago burbling about machines. Well the update is that I have purchased a second hand one from eBay! I held my breath a bit as I was so worried there maybe a problem with it but it is fine :D It is a Janone Memorycraft and has all the features I wanted. I am really happy with it.

I was wondering how you got on with your ebay purchase.

Have you made anything with it yet ?

I have only just got it and so have been trying out all the stitches. It has a computerised screen so I am trying hard to read the instruction manual rather than just rushing in and guessing  It even cuts the thread for you which is so lovely. I am making up blocks for a quilt using different techniques at the moment so am looking forward to using it for that. My purchase seems to have worked out ok but it was a bit of a worry as you have to trust the seller.

Finished the mascot for the library of my school:

Their logo has an owl with a graduation cap on in the red brown colours of the school. And they asked me to make a crocheted mascot. I think it worked well.

Thanks Olly!

I hope so too! Although we have a two week holiday now, so will have to wait to see what they say.

He's great! What a fab mascot!

Glad you are enjoying the Janome. Mine is also a Memorycraft but it is old. Playing free motion quilting on there at the moment. I'm just so rubbish! Note to self - make quilts with not many seams joining at points - what a pain in the bottom to machine over that. Another note to self - if I find I have made a pointy quilt then make sure the quilt design misses the points!

Felting kit is called Through the Rainbow and it was from the craft centre in Andover - I popped in briefly to the quilt shop and saw the felting/knitting/wool shop - it specialises in Dorset Buttons - and popped in. Sorry Christian!!!! It was spur of the moment and a need to escape the house day! I think it is one that the owner made up. Nice little box, foam, 2 needles and lots of wool but not enough core wool methinks - or I'm just heavy handed with it!

I have been watching Sarafina Renzulli on Youtube for inspiration. My bunnies don't look anything like the photo on the box. I've done variations on a theme and went back to pick more wool up on Tuesday. Oh my - merino is soooo gorgeously soft!!!

Sorry for the late reply - went to Hereford for a long weekend. Still keeping an eye on areas.

Oooh that's a lovely long scarf Cat tails

I was going to crochet a scarf for myself but haven't even started yet - don't think it will look anything like your one though :( ....... just need to get some wool.

I used a cheap acryllic, which comes in loads of colours. It looks very intricate but believe me, it is dead simple. If you can do trebles, you can do this! To get the height difference between rows I put the stitches in the backloops only instead of through both loops as you normally do.

Very pretty scarf. All those instructions sound like skating terms or gymnastics! Whoosh over my head it goes!

The quilt bit inside is done, I now have the border sashings to do and then bind the blooming thing. Oh so many arghh moments. Part of me wants to unpick and another part says leave it. I was watching an Eleanor Burns video on Youtube this morning - she said if it looks OK if you drive past it at 25mph then don't worry! That cracked me up! I think I'll leave my mistakes then!

And here is my naked felt bunny:

And here it is with a bit more fur not finished yet - needs more fur dotted about and his nose is too fat so that needs to be sorted a bit too:

Beautiful scarf Cat Tails and I am also in love with the Bunny - he is beautiful. My kit is a picture of sheep on a hill - not even looked at it yet - trying to finish my quilt. Quilting 3/4 done then have the border to quilt and then binding - have 4 and half weeks so will get there no problems. Val let us see your quilt too please.
