Mar1a
My girls live in a wired run on an allotment. We've got tarpaulin over the roof which has been fine in terms of keeping the girls dry and giving them shade, but I'm getting to the point that I need a solid roof. The run is all metal frame. It's 1m at its lowest point and about 2.5m at the apex. What sort of roofing material would be best, given that I don't have any wood to screw it in to? Am I better using a clear (ish) type to allow valuable light in over the winter? The sides are half open - there is polycarbonate sheeting around the sides that are most exposed to the weather. It also needs to be fox proof... Ideas please? Thanks
DaisyAndBobby
Without wood as a fixing point it could be awkward. Do you have any photos? I might suggest some metal poles running between the vertical walls, if these could perhaps be drilled and bolted into the existing metal frame? Then, if you space them correctly, you should be able to affix some corrugated roofing boards using zip ties to the poles. If you have any photos though we could be more helpful in our suggestions. Hope that helps...
Princess Leia
You could use clear or opaque (for shade) plastic corrugated sheeting on the roof and drill it into wood battens held on the inside of the mesh to clamp it in place. Or drill it and cable tie it to the wire (that would leave hole that a small amount of water would get through, though).
The Dogmother
I would recommend getting a large glass clear tarp from ebay andsoem eyelets/bungee hooks from B&Q. Suits my set-up just fine
Mar1a
Not the best pic but it gives you ( hopefully!) an idea

The Dogmother
That's because it's too big to fit on the forum template... the longest dimension needs to be no more than
