soapdragon
I do love a good fete ! First one of the year this afternoon then its wall to wall fetes in all the little villages round here until the end of June. Wet and windy but the band played on - quite literally! If my boys ever hear a brass band playing they always say its fete music! It was opened by the oldest man in the village - 90 years old! - and had all the usual...plants, white elephant, bottle stall (OH won some Imperial leather bath stuff; def not the bottle he had in mind!) coconut shy which the boys loved, mega book stall, Splat the Rat and loads of others. The only thing that was missing was Punch and Judy....used to see them a lot when I was little (have been fete going for yonks!!!) but maybe it is not PC nowadays Theres something quintessentially English about a fete! patsylabrador
I never go to fetes but you've inspired me. I think I shall make this a summer of fetes. I've got a sudden urge for bunting and splat the rat!
dancing cloud
Our village fete is 12th June - so make sure you've got waterproofs handy for that weekend . Occasionally we've had a heatwave but it's more usually cold, wet and muddy. It looks and sounds very cheerful, but the lanes were not intended for that level of traffic and parking. It can all get a bit Midsomer Murders, so we're generally cheerful prisoners in our own home that day (and well-dressing day, when there are parades too ). Alis girls
Fete worse than death me thinks. Sadly I am over that stage of life. Helped organise many a fete, loved it but oh so tiring. Made cakes, did stalls and games. Good luck. Usually found myself with a large glass of wine after it all.
The Dogmother
There are some lovely fetes in the villages around us; proper old fashioned ones with tea tents run by the WI Then there are the game fairs and field sports events; always take the hounds to those And finally, our annual street party - an event not to be missed, and wonderful fun.
