Plum
Thinking of getting another machine, a lightweight cheap one for workshops any recommendations anyone. Right to business. If you are ok I'll carry on with instructions to finish the first piece then we'll do the second in the same way, trim them and stitch together. So you've added section 3, so now add 4 in the same way. Leave the overhang of fabric we'll trim it in a bit. Carry on with 5, 6 and 7. With section 8 I used green to look like grass. You've now completed the first half and it should look something like this.
Plum
Now put that on one side and we'll do the second piece with them numbered 1a to 5a in the same way. 2a is the beak which is tiny but this is magic and as long as you sew on the lines you'll get a perfect pointed beak. Complete the piece and it should look something like this. Wow piece of chocolate for photobucket it's behaving. Press each piece now and then we are going to trim along the outside line of each piece on the outside line. They should look like this Edited March 22, 2017 by Guest
Plum
Forget the chocolate we're onto wine now and the home stretch. We are going to sew the two halfs together. Place them right sides together. The point we need to match is the breastbone where 6 joins 1a and 1,3a etc. So drop a pin through the sewing line at that join point in both pieces and you'll get a pretty good match. The ends of the seams will overhang which is fine because when you open it up and press all will be perfect (nearly) Go ahead and press the seam open and magic you chicken is here! So has anyone started. Please ask if I'm talking double dutch Edited March 22, 2017 by Guest
Plum
Well not quite. On your original pattern draw a comb and wattles, trace onto fusible webbing and iron onto your chicken. You can either sew round it or use a fine zig, zag to secure. Alternatively grab the glue and stick it down. I used a bit of embroidery to add feet and if you want to make them look feathered you could use more stitches. Add a bead or French knot for the eye and hey presto you're done. Luvachicken
I'll have to watch the video again as it didn't seem to have any sound. Hubby got me some speakers to plug in for other youtube things that don't have very good sound, so I'll use those. Thanks for the video Plum
Plum
Morning You can remove your papers once it's together. I've found the best way is to scratch a pin across the middle of the section which tears the paper and peel it from there. If you run something hard like closed scissors along the seams the paper comes out easier. I don't worry about bits that are stuck but if you are OCD then tweezers work fine. Plum
I forget to tell you to use smaller stitches so the paper falls off easier, I've added it in now.

Valkyrie
Currently sandwiching DD's quilt but the printer has printed and it's come out fine - will do it next - probably on the treadle. I know what fabric I'm going to use. Ursula that looks great - and love the shiny beak! Incidentally the link worked fine for me - but I did get sidetracked on Youtube looking at other people's how to paper piece too!

Plum
I made the little pekin in applique as well and am happy to share the pattern. It's my pattern so copyright free. This one was done using bondaweb, I've added a border and gallery wrapped it onto a canvas frame so it's easy to hang.
