I've never found it happen with mine but it could be down to the variety of pumpkin some of the Mediterranean ones do have a darker orange flesh than the 'Halloween' pumpkin. I seem to struggle to grow the nicer Mediterranean ones before I had the chickens I used to grow quite good examples

I bought mine pumpkin specially but they didn't really like it :roll:

They didn't like it last year either so I have made a point of putting Do Not Buy Pumpkin on the calendar for next year :lol:

I find with mine the prefer any of the squash family whole the hard skinned types I have to cut a hole in them normally about 2inch square or round is enough, then it can take a couple of hours for them to remember it's food the first time each year,the seeds all go before tea time then it'll take them 2 or 3 day to reduce it down to a pecked clean skin saucer
