Our poor hen still has a white deposit around her vent (cloaca) and a search on the internet shows this to be Vent Gleet.  Basically, she has a fungal infection, and this is causing soreness and even some bleeding.  Has anyone managed to deal with this, without going to the vet?  The vet is too expensive, and I would like to find alternative solutions.

Try bathing the area with diluted ACV and then smoothing on some Sudocrem. If it is vent gleet, then it will smell nasty - a white discharge can be any number of things and it needs to be treated regardless.

I've successfully treated vent gleet with Canesten.  I used the syringe product in my hen's vent.    This isn't licenced for poultry, I'm not a vet.
