Chrysalis 0 Posted November 15, 2018 Our poor hen still has a white deposit around her vent (cloaca) and a search on the internet shows this to be Vent Gleet. Basically, she has a fungal infection, and this is causing soreness and even some bleeding. Has anyone managed to deal with this, without going to the vet? The vet is too expensive, and I would like to find alternative solutions.
The Dogmother 581 Posted November 15, 2018 Try bathing the area with diluted ACV and then smoothing on some Sudocrem. If it is vent gleet, then it will smell nasty - a white discharge can be any number of things and it needs to be treated regardless.
WitchHazel 2 Posted November 27, 2018 I've successfully treated vent gleet with Canesten. I used the syringe product in my hen's vent. This isn't licenced for poultry, I'm not a vet.
