Dental Implants

Recommended Posts

Hi

I haven't posted for a while but have always found you lovely Omlet people so helpful for all matters and not just chickens...

My husband (nearly 50) has been told that he has to lose 8 teeth and either have dentures or implants...

For Implants he has been quoted £14000 ....we  don't know anyone who has had implants and struggling to find reviews apart from all the actual dentists site ...can anyone offer any wise advice...

Also we stumbled across a website saying in budapest the price is signifucantally cheaper and te gurantee 15 years longer so if anyone has flown out there to have implants we would love to know what you think,

Thank you and hope you are all well

Helen

Hi Harrison OH. I have 4 implants in different parts of my mouth. All at different times. Two settled in perfectly and feel no different to my own teeth. One in my lower jaw never really settled, the gum never settled and a little pocket/ fissure developed which was always getting infected. I was back and forth to dentist very often. In the end I left that dentist, for other reasons, my new dentist didn’t do implants and referred me on. The implant specialist took either MRI or CT scan and said the implant should have been imbedded in a different spot and would never settle. Result removal of implant,6 months to allow gum to heal. Implant inserted and allowed to settle for 3 months before crown fitting and to be honest that one is still painful off and on. Therefore for all the fuss I have had I would not travel to Budapest as you may not get follow up care here. I also would not do a remove tooth, stick in the implant at the same time which I know often happens as that I think is why that one went wrong. Though I am sure there are lots of people that have had no problem. I do know chap who went to Budapest and got tooth veneers at fraction of cost here.

We spend some time in Spain each year where implants seem to be more the norm and cheaper than the U.K.  There are some dentists which just do these.   I think I’d want the ability to go back quickly if anything went wrong so not sure I’d use them.  But my brother in law is talking about it.

My son had some and it took time with various appointments to do stages which needed time to settle and bones to fuse before the implants could be done and then return visits to ensure everything was good. Obviously everyone is different but for us it could never have been done quickly. I think that has to be discussed beforehand because if it turns out that a series of appointments are needed over time it might as well be done in your home country.

Had one done here which cost €1500. Five visits needed over 12 months. First for extraction, then to check healing and accurately measure bone depth, then to fit post with additional bone graft, then check healing of the implanted post and take impression for the cap and finally to fit cap. The thought of all that 8 times horrifies me! Perhaps dentures would be better?

Thank you for the replies ....they are planning on removing teeth, putting some temporary ones in ..leaving and putting more in after 6 months ...

I think we are going to look at a few places over here but the thought of it makes me feel ill....I blame years of him living on pepsi and coke before I met him !!!!!
