Chiltern Escarpment

Recommended Posts

I think a few people on this forum will recognise this. I have seen it from the M40 ever since the M40 was built but it never registered if you know what I mean. It looked spectacular but I didn't think any more about it. Because of the current situation and because it's hard to sit still I looked closer to home for somewhere to explore. It's wonderful.

I have some lovely photos (which I will try to find) of that area as good friends have a farm up in Radnage. they get some magnificent views from there.

They are lucky to live right at the top of one of the 'fingers' of the escarpment, so have amazing views down the valley on either side.

Where were you going Jude?

I've driven past a sign to Aston Wood Nature Reserve in the past when the Triumph garage was by j7. I vaguely remembered it the other day so we went to try it out and I'm glad that I did. It's very blustery up there isn't it, the wind blew my hat off, luckily it got caught on my ponytail.

PL, those pictures are about 15 minutes from our village! Equally we are 10 mins from the garage that you went to. Next time you come down PM me! We have lived in this area for the last 40 plus years (Oh grew up here) and it is beautiful. I love driving down the M40 just past Stokenchurch through that chalk gap and seeing the view open up as the land falls away. Then I know I'm very nearly home.
