Chick now 12 weeks old and one of mums bullying it!

Recommended Posts

So of my two serama chicks that I hatched with two broody seramas I only have the female left as the male went to his new home nearly two weeks ago.  My problem is that one of the 'broodies' is now laying eggs and has started to be really nasty with the chick.  I've separated for now but I don't know how I'm going to be able to do this long-term as I only have the three seramas - any suggestions?

I think you’ll have to carry on as for normal introductions. As long as no physical damage is done, leave them to get on with it and get the pecking order established. If it’s too bad you may have to somehow separate them - in my experience things will probably improve once the chick comes into lay and her hormones change.

Thanks Mullet - I'm just worried about the chick becoming stressed because obviously there is a big disparity in sizes - the chick is tiny still. :-(

How old is the chick now?

I may have a similar issue soon as I hatched one female and 3 males 🙄 Already rehome one of the boys and have a home for another. I’m thinking I may try to integrate before the boys go though to make it a bit easier.

At that age, even though she’s still small she should be robust enough to be able to cope with a bit of rough and tumble.
