Luvachicken
Aww, they are doing well. I'm not surprised they come in at night time - it is pretty chilly for summer temperatures.
Cat tails
Your one barnevelder and maran both have a serious comb going on! Two boys? They all look lovely though!
mullethunter
I think so Cattails yes. One boy and one girl of each breed I think. That’s quite a result for me! And the best thing is I have two people who actually want cockerels 🙌🏻
mullethunter
The gang are 6 weeks old now and have moved out. Still think I have two boys and two girls. Beatrice and Asterix the Barnevelders and Monique and Maurice (need to get their photos off my other phone) the marans.
Cat tails
Asterix has way more comb then my Selma at 10 weeks. They look lovely!
Luvachicken
Asterix does have a lot bigger comb than Beatrice. I have never been able to tell the difference very well on photos before but can I see this time. Sweet little chicks though - you must be very chuffed that you hatched them and grew them on. Daphne
They do look lovely, strawberries and cavalo nero for tea then!

Yes Luvachicken and Cattails the comb difference is quite striking isn’t it?! Here are Maurice and Monique. The breeder told me that they’re very easy because the female only has one gene for barring whereas the male has two so you can easily tell the boys by their much lighter colour. Daphne
They are pretty aren't they? Do you think you will keep them both?
mullethunter
I will keep the girls. The boys are going one to my mums and one to my friend. I’ll have 11 then - always said my cut off was 10 🙈

Luvachicken
I think treats may be involved but how exactly did you get them to all stay in one place ? They look amazing btw x

mullethunter
Treats actually weren’t involved! That’s their pre-bedtime perch and they all heard a noise just as I was there with my phone. I got lucky!!

mullethunter
I don’t think so… I say that because I have had 2 eggs twice this week and I’m not completely sure who laid them but I THINK it’s two of my Dutch bantams rather than either of the newbies - I need to spend more time watching them but stupid work keeps getting in the way!!
Cat tails
Well, were they tiny and rubbish and looked like it took a lot of faffing? Then they probably were your Dutch bantams 😂 The only hen still laying here is my sweet Selma the Barnevelder. Bless her little chocolate heart.
