When will my purebreed start laying?

Recommended Posts

I bought purebreeds (pol) in January my welsummer started laying a month ago but my Wheaton maran has not laid her comb is still pale. I'm in England and it has been warm do you know when she should start laying?

Many thanks

Pure breeds typically lay at between 26 and 30 weeks old. Point-of-lay is nowadays a rather vague term. It should mean they are about two weeks from laying, but it seems they are now sold when they have their final plumage, so after 14 weeks or so. You would need to ask the breeder when they were hatched, if they can remember?

The cold spell coming up may well delay things.
