Yolko
Anyway, thought it was time for a bit of an update. Not much has been happening Chez Yoko until last weekend when all of a sudden there was a great deal of squealking coming from the Egloo. I knew something was up because Clarissa was standing in the doorway clucking words of encouragement and I could just see Nigella who was firmly attached to the nesting box. Nigella is the biggest of the gang and is the black one. Clarrisa is the next and then Little Delia is the baby of the three. The squeaking and clucking went on for about 20 minutes, then Nigella appeared. What a girl! She fluffed and strutted her way round the garden enclosure. Clarissa behaved a bit like a groupy and followed her friend around having checked that the nesting box and inspected the egg. I nipped in and retrieved it. A lovely smallish dark brown shell. Since then Nigella has gained confidence and is now producing an egg a day. They have gradually grown in size and I am so proud of her. I think Clarissa may be about to start laying as well. She has started to crouch down when I go towards her and she is quite easy to pick up. Does anyone else know of any telling signs? Nigella has now started eating the oyster shells on a daily basis so think it must be an instinct thing that they do when laying. The rest of the tribe and me are just enjoying a very hot summer. We had a huge thunderstorm last night which caused a great deal of consternation with the 'girls' but they then just marched into the Egloo and waited it out. I kept an eye on them from the kitchen and periodically saw a beak peaking out but they very sensibly didn't move until the storm had passed. 'Administration' has been demoted due to an indescretion with the lawnmower last week, however he is pursuing his other duties although these got him pecked on the nose by Clarissa having been a bit too 'thorough' with an inspection round.
