sandyhas3chucks
WEEELLl I was going to call the topic are my girls too spoilt, but seeing as I have just realised that they are waiting for me to "put them to bed" (no bed time stories honest) Anyway my girls seem to leave load & loads of their mash just picking out what are clearly the "best" bits, now this is a tad more wasteful than the usual "lets flick it all over the place see how far it will go" wastage. I have tried wetting it & they turn their noses up(so to speak) . As I want to get 2 of them featherd up I have been trying allsorts. what to do? I s there enough nutitional stuff in the dust that is left? Should I take it all out(currently in large wooden drawer used for scratching about in lookingh for left over good bits, & feed less? TheCoop
For this very reason, I went back to layers pellets. Don't get me wrong, they still fling it all about the place, but it's easier to clean up than mash. I sprinkle chicken spice over the pellets and they seem to dig that. jomaxsmith
I found that certain types were more 'dusty' - organic Marriages mash was very finely ground and my hens made so much mess with it I went back to Marriages non organic. I tend to top up the grub for about a week, then tip out anything left and start again. Hens eat by scooping food into their beaks with their tongues so some of the dust must go in as well as the best bits. Jo
sandyhas3chucks
I have both also bokashi & bran mix. This is because I was seeing if others are better. They almost starve than eat pellets & I like that it gives them longer to eat activity time.Less time to bully HA! AS if (well that was the theory) . I thought they all seemed samey, but will reinspect my mash buckets(as I have nothing better to do! ) like inspecting pooh
Paola
That is why I changed to pellets. Mine would choose the bits they fancied and leave the rest, usually on the floor So they had the choice of eating the pellets or starving. It prob sounds harsh. Having said that mine also get treats in the afternoon most days
