Woodchip/chipped wood question

Recommended Posts

I have spent most of the weekend lopping off limbs, pruning and shaping about 9 trees in the garden (mostly connifers, but there were hazel and lilac trees and holly bush that got trims as well). I will be chipping the wood this week (yes, that much wood, it will take all week).

So I want to put some of the resulting woodchip to use in the droppings tray.... is there any particular type of chipped up wood that is not good to use in a hen house? Are the mixed chippings of connifers, hazel, lilacs and holly okay? The chippings will be mixed, as I won't be able to separate one type of wood from another at this point.
