ross81 Posted December 8, 2008 Share Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) Hi all one of my girls laid a egg at the weekend which had a bit of poo on it and some white spots so i wiped it with a bit of damp kitchen paper and the colour, which was a red brown colour, wiped of but not completly to show white patches. SnowWhite Posted December 27, 2008 Share Posted December 27, 2008 I think I now know what caused this patchy effect. Yesterday I collected an egg that had just been laid and was still damp. I wiped it dry and in doing so removed the top coating/pigment layer. I should have left it to dry as this layer protects the egg and stops nasties from getting through the shell. Anyway, I now have a patchy egg! So it's nothing to worry about, just let your eggs dry off and only wipe them clean if you absolutely have too!
