westleigh
Hi my chickens live in a open style run, when i got my cube i noticed that they were having trouble getting on to the ladder so i placed two logs at the bottom of the ladder so it was easier for them but today i noticed that the logs have been chewed quite alot in the middle of the cut ends,i know i have a rat at the moment but surely they only chew wood to gain access these logs a just laying on the ground if its not the rat what else could it be? any ideas as this is baffling me
Guest
erm, my pet rat used to gnaw the legs of chairs, TV wires, cushions, anything and everything! They do it to keep their teeth down as they're constantly growing. So I'm afraid it could be a rat, sorry

thewhitehouse
Sounds like you should get rid of the logs When we had our eglu my OH put some wire netting on the ladder to make it easier to get on - works a treat. They probably don't need it now but I can't get through the teeny door to get it out
