Surrey Hen
Help - I've never had an injured cook before!! One of my girls has torn her toe nail til it bled - she must have caught it on something and had a chook-panic and pulled to get it free. I have washed and dried it and the bleeding has stopped but can anyone recomend something safe to treat it with as I don't want it getting infected. Thanks SH
Barkisland
Have you any purple spray? That should do the trick.
Hen Watch
I was going to say similar. Gentian Violet Spray or Tea Tree Mist (both sold in horse supply shops). If it's clean and stopped bleeding then it might be ok as it is as long as the others don't peck at the sight of blood (if they do, the violet stuff is great at masking that and I should know as I put some on my white chicken yesterday and she looks like she's been dipped in purple food colouring....) Fourbecameeight
This happened to one of the ex-batts last week and was my first chicken injury. There was blood everywhere and i wasn’t sure who it was coming from as they were still confined to the run then. I hadn’t realised how mad they go when they see blood it was lucky i was home and check on them often. I ran to a neighbour and she helped hold her while i sprayed the purple spray. I kept an eye on her and she is fine and it healed with no further treatment.
