Shed conversion run - floor?

Recommended Posts

Hope all you more experienced folks can help.

My hubby has been demolishing our shed ready for converting into a walk in run for the chooks. He's knocked out the roof and most of the sides plus doors and we've just ordered weldmesh and polycarbonate roofing :D

Thing is, he's determined to keep the wooden shed foor as it is, as he says the structure won't be stable otherwise and it'll make it nice and easy to clean out.

I'm worried about it rotting in the damp from rain blowing in / poo etc so he says we could put some sort of plastic sheeting or something down on top. Or would treating it with Timbercare along with the rest of the frame prevent it rotting? What does everyong think? Ideas / advice?

The whole lot is going to be on slabs and I just think it would be better to have just the frame on there with no flooring and the bedding direct on the slabs. He says the slabs will then get really manky and it'll be harder to brush out all the old bedding when cleaning out which I can see.

Then again I'm also worried about rats getting under the shed since it's currently slightly raised off the floor - AGH! We'd also have to raise up the ark which we're going to put up against the run to get it on a level....

Can someone please help?

Thanks!

Laura.
