SleepyFairy
Hello lovely people, Wondered if I'm being a neurotic (relatively) new chicken mummy or if my chicken is poorly?? Our beautiful gingernut, Peach, has spent a lot of time on her nesting box today and produced a shaded in colour egg with blood splatter on the top (which Fudge also sometimes does) which isn't abnormal BUT she also seems to have a super enlarged chest today. She also seems to be a little subdued compared to the other girls. I picked her up for a cuddle and inspection and it doesn't feel odd but it does seem to sort of wobble a little bit when she walks. Its looks awfully large in comparison to the others. What is this about??? Does anyone know? Am so worried that its some sort of large bizarre growth on her entire breast With anticipation...... Guest
It sounds as if she may have had a bit of trouble laying that egg, but don't worry yet. You need to wait and see how things are over the next few days. She may be absolutely fine. Re the crop - again, don't panic. Crops should normally be small in the morning and quite large by the evening. Watch her and see how it goes over the next few days. If there is a crop problem, live maggots from a fishing shop should sort out any trapped food (long grass for example may cause a problem). If it is a different sort of problem, have a read in the chickens section on crop problems and see if you can find a likely cause. Ask again if you want more help. SleepyFairy
Lovely thank you so much. Will heed your advice. I did move the girls onto some longer grass on Sunday so maybe that could be the problem then...hmmmmm. Thanks so much again and will keep our fingers crossed J x x x x x x
Guest
Hopefully it's nothing at all. I remember how every new behaviour was so worrying until you get to know that it's normal.
