sampigott
hi, please can someone give me some advise. i have sucessfully hatched 3 ducklings this year under a broody chicken (and the eggs came from our existing flock of ducks) they are now looking fit and well and i would like to be able to introduce them to the main flock as soon as possible. they are almost fully feathered and broody chicken has been back with the main flock for a week or so now. how do i do this without the young ducks getting picked on (or wont they?) any advise would be gratefully received. thanks samp
Guest
Congratulations I had some Aylesbury ducklings from under a silkie hen a few years back, if they are fully feathered and going in with other ducks just put them in together with lots of space..but I have no idea about mixing ducks & chickens( I am newbie chicken ownner..I understand and can imagine chickens being a bit more pecky)?? I just mixed my old and new ducks up and had no problem but they were free ranging together in a big area during the day(pond and fields) Just do it whilst you are around if you have to intervene perhaps you may have to intro them more via ie netting etc More feed stations?? sorry if this is nt that helpful good luck indie
miller30
Hi it is best not to introduce young ducks to the main flock until they are at least 16 weeks old if you have a drake he wont be fussy who he gets frisky with and it will damage very young ducks hope this helps.
