Hi all!

 

I just wanted to post a question about egg laying. I have two chickens - a pepperpot and a ranger. My ranger is very good at laying eggs - she pops in, pops it out, and there you go. However recently my pepperpot is "brooding" in the eglu for 3,4, today it must have been 7 hours!!

 

IS THIS NORMAL, OR IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD DO?

 

She does lay an egg each time, and leave the eglu eventually, she just takes a long, long time getting there.

 

I would be really grateful for any advice.

Vaseline?! Only joking. What does she eat? Maybe it's a diet thing. Are they really big eggs? And has she always been like this or only recently started taking her time?

One of my Pepperpots does the same thing, and I've heard a few others mention theirs, too. I wonder if it's a Pepperpot thing?

I'd say that is a tad too long

 

I'd check after she's been in there a while as she may have laid and just be enjoyed sitting on her eggs!

 

I've have one that does this and if I find that's the case I chuck her out! I wouldn't want to encourage broodiness!
