Fur pulling

Recommended Posts

We heave had Mollly and Polly since they were 12 weeks old. They were both spayed and lived happily together in their Eglu until, at the age of 2.5 years, Molly sadly died last week. We think it was pneumonia contracted during the heatwave but we are not absolutely sure...

We have had Polly checked out by the vet and she seems fine. However, 10 days on she has started pulling her fur out. Is this a sign of distress, loneliness or boredom? She is having to groom herself completely now where before she and her sister groomed each other. She cannot be pregnant.

I cannot introduced a new rabbit to her because she is advanced in her years and I fear this may cause her more distress...

As a matter of routine she sleeps outside on the top of her catbox (not in it) and has always used the pod of her Eglu as a lavatory...

Please let me have your views....

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

I would think that Polly is lonely. Bunnies live on average to around 7 or 8 years old so I don't think she is too old to introduce another bunny. There are lots of beautiful bunnies looking for homes in rabbit rescues around the country it may be worth looking on their websites for a new friend for Polly.

Good Luck :D
