nessywood
Hi, one of my girls got attacked this morning by a dog. She seems ok in herself and I cant see any puncture wounds just a lot of missing feathers and she seems very shell shocked. The one problem I can see is that the white lid of her eye is permanently closed now, I guess the dog may have hurt her eye in the attack. Should I leave well alone or bathe it. She's now in the utility room recouperating!! Thanks
Chucky Mama
You need to leave her intitially to get over the shock which in itself is a danger to her health. If the eyelid is over her eye it will protect it for now but make sure that you keep the area clean if it starts to discharge. If there is any damage to the eye the quicker she is seen the better really as they can get infected very quickly. I would have thought that if she is comfortable now tomorrow (if the eyelid is still over) is soon enough to put her through the stress of a journey to the vets, especially as she is likely to have to wait in a room full of slobbering barking dogs! nessywood
Thank you. I'll keep a close eye on it and keep my fingers crossed that it just heals without having to take a trip to the vets.
Chucky Mama
don't take any chances with the eye. If there is a scratch on the surface of the eye and it get infected it can get nasty (eyeballs can burst - sorry if you are having your supper)
