alet_chicken
One of my ex-batts laid a very strange egg last week. Here are two pictures: The egg is slightly misshapen, and the top end comes out in a point, ending with a small hole. The egg is perfect inside: the protective membrane is completely intact, so there is just a problem with the shell. The chicken who laid this was on antibiotics recommended by the vet as a precautionary measure because one of our new girls arrived with a repiratory infection, but she herself did not show any symptoms at the time. Has anybody else seen anything like this? Is this a once-off or something to be worried about? Alet
Chiccadees3
Parsley, one of my exbatts lays eggs like this on a regular basis. Mostly without the hole although I have had some like this. Compared to the other 2 who lay hers are quite different and variable. She has all the supplements, correct food, treats etc. They are also huge 80g compared to the normal 60g. She also sometimes does 2 in one day - second one a softie though. I guess it is just her - bless - an exbatt thing as she was bred for her eggs. As long as she is fine in herself I wouldnt worry. Not sure I would eat the egg with a hole though If anyone has any other ideas I would be interested - thanks
