Liquid Paraffin?!

Recommended Posts

My OH works with a man who has kept chickens on and off since he was a young boy (now in his 50's so many years!!). He says that when ever one of his chickens was 'a bit down' he would give it a (small) syringe of liquid paraffin into its mouth as it worked wonders as a pick-me-up :?

This conversation came about as one of our ex-batts is not quite right at the mo - very helpful people on here have made suggestions reharding egg binding and we are trying out as many of the suggestions as we can but wondered about the liquid paraffin idea too???

Any thoughts??

I wouldnt give it unless the chicken can swallow ok for the reasons Chucky Mama gave

I bought some Net Tex drops that promise to perk up an ill chicken and was really impressed with the results, they give a nutrient boost to an ailing hen but obviously do not treat any underlying condition

Sugar water is suposedly recomended for perking up exbats according LHR but I suppose that depends in what's actually wrong

yes as a quick fix on release or an emergency treatment.

I think the impotrtant thing as you say is depends what is actually wrong !

We are not vets and that really is where a sick chook should go rather sooner than later.

As stated in the Animal Welfare Act recently.
