Early Bird
I have recently noticed this happening and am not sure how serious a problem it is. Sam, the big boss in the run is having a go at the other three. She started on Diamond, the lowest in the pecking order and has now moved on to Pearl and Ella (who is her lieutenant and has pecked at the other two herself). No blood has been drawn, but all three have sizeable bald patches on their backsides. I have tried anti feather pecking spray on all three but this doesn't seem to be having any effect. Someone recommended that I handle Sam more than the others so she gets the idea that she's not as important as she thinks she is but this didn't work either. I'm beginning to wonder if I should separate her from the others before it gets more serious but this would be a problem. All advice welcomed. laurmurf
it turn into a bad habit incredibly quickly. Get a bumper bit on the culprit as soon as possible. If the habit's only just started then you may only need the bumper bit for a few weeks. At least that will give the others some peace to grow their knickers back! Early Bird
Thanks for that laurmurf. I have heard of these, but can you tell me where I can acquire one?
laurmurf
i bought mine off ebay, but they're sold by Flytes of Fancy and all t'other poultry suppliers (Regency, etc). Not the easiest to apply: to quote the blessed Egluntyne you'll need straight circlip pliers from Halfords to make the job easier. good luck! Early Bird
Thanks, I shall acquire one asap since the poor girls need every feather they can get at the moment. I just saw her having a right go at Ella and the other two had taken refuge in the cube.
