good news and bad news

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, havent been on for a few weeks, just been so busy, good news regarding Gene, my black crested hybrid thingy, if you remember i had given her a deadline of March 31st to start laying as she is now well over a year old, well sha started laying a couple of weeks ago and now laying nearly every day, large eggs brown at one end and light brown at the other end,

the bad news is ive lost my 2nd Wernlas girl, i lost Monica, my Welbar to sourcrop a coulple of months ago, well a few weeks ago i lost Floppy, my Gold Legbar, she had stopped laying about a week before but seemed fine, one day i went to check on them before going to work and she came running to the door with the others as normal, my wife rang me about 10 mins after going to work to say she was dead, just laying in the run with legs in the air, she must have just keeled over and died,

more bad news, Dottie, my Wyandotte stopped laying 2 weeks ago, she did not look well and didnt seem to be eating, just spent a lot of time sitting or perching and going to sleep. no signs of sourcrop. doesnt seem to be eggbound although her vent seemed to be pulsing all the time and was a little bloody,

we have bathed her in warm water and rubbed some olive oil around her vent, she now seems a lot better, comes running for treats, greens, worms etc although im not sure she is eating pellets ? she now has some food in her crop at the end of the day, a week ago it allways felt empty, anyway fingers crossed she is going to be ok,

so down to 6 girls from 8, i am getting 4 or 5 eggs a day regular from my other girls, and now going to have to go through the introduction process again when i get 2 replacements. i might go for a white star and a cream legbar,

Man, what I time you've had! I must say you seem very level headed about it all. I can't imagine how you must all be feeling. Surely it's unusual to have this much bad luck! I feel terrible for you.

I have a White star who is a prolific egg layer of really heavy eggies, and your legbar will be sure to give you a beautiful coloured egg.

Hope you manage to get them soon, and good luck with your intros. remember to go very slowly....
