skye
Morning all, We are moving house in three weeks. YAY! Our chickens are looking forward to it most as there will be even more grass to trash, and an interesting-looking field at the bottom of the garden to fly over the fence into - if we aren't careful The journey from our old house to our new house will be up to two hours depending on traffic. I really think the cardboard pet carriers will be too stuffy for that length of journey. There are eight of them (two are LF Orpingtons, 3 ex-barnies and 3 hybrids). What do you think would be the most stress-free, comfortable way of transporting them? (I'll have the nutri-drops and the corn ready for them at the other end!) Thank you! skye x
quickcluck
I think they would be fine in the boxes. They are great as they are dark which will encourage the chooks to sleep which reduces their stress. You could get 2 in a box, maybe only one orp though.....
madchickenlady
I'd use boxes, too. Lots of ventilation, though. Good luck with your move
Foot-tapper506
Hi I moved house at Easter and my chooks travelled the 1 hour journey in their coop. I only have four hens though so probably easier than 8!! They were shouting loudly at being shut in (what was happening!) but as soon as we were on the move they went quiet. Once unloaded and in place in their new garden, I opened the door and all four jumped out and strutted around like they already owned the place (which of course they do ) and seemed none the worse for their experience. No problems since either except they think I am a horrid chicken mummy because now I have had time to sort out the garden, they are confined to about a quarter of it instead of having it all . Good luck with your move, I am sure they will be fine however they travel.
skye
Thanks guys. If you think those pet boxes are all right, then that's what I'll use. I might just put the two orpies in a slightly larger box together so they don't start doing their 'waaaaah wah wah wah wah wah' like two ducks Might get the car nice and cool before I put them in too. And put more holes in the boxes as I don't think there are enough, or that they are big enough! I might make holes like slits, a bit like the BHWT told us to when we picked up the barnies. Cheers for the moving wishes as well! It all just feels very surreal at the moment! skye x
