Kidney disease caused by a parasite?

Since I don't have chickens, this is going to sound a strange question, but bear with me...

 

A while ago I had a conversation with a vet where he said that he had treated kidney disease in chickens and rabbits caused by a parasite. I have no idea what the parasite is, other than that it is not E Cuniculi.

 

Would anyone be able to help me out with this mystery? Unfortunately, my vet emigrated, so he is no longer available to ask!

Edit: thinking some more, it might be coccidiosis.
