Should I leave a broody girl to it?

Recommended Posts

Our lovely Nessa has gone broody.

I have read several threads about getting her to snap out of it but am wondering what would happen if I just leave her to it.

Does anyone on here recommend leaving her alone in one end of the cube nest box? Will the other girls be OK or will they start to get broody too?

That's what I thought I'd do, first. But not now. Reasons to turf her off the nest:

1. broody hen loses condition incredibly quickly - not eating, poo-ing or grooming.

2. other hens get annoyed with her hogging the nest box and pluck feathers out of her neck to try to get her to vacate.

3. no eggs.

4. broodiness is "contagious", I read somewhere, ie the others get broody too.
