Isabel
Isn't she a clever girl? It's absolutely minute - esp given that she's a great big Orpington, albiet a young one! It only weighed 37g. DH thought I'd been mean enough to put an egg from the fridge in the nesting box for DS to find .... the only way I could convince him I hadn't was to show him the difference in shell colour and size. BTW, the shell feels very china-like, if that makes sense. Should I be giving her any supplements now - would have to be something safe for the younger ones, of course. Following earlier thread, seems like I should keep them on Growers for a while - about 8 weeks yet. Is that okay? And this is going to take the vote for the stupidest question of the day ... is it okay to eat/bake with? Isabel

Mercedes55
Well done, I bet you were so chuffed when you saw that egg. I don't know anything about what size they should be either as I've only recently got my hens and they are all adults so were already laying
Isabel
She's looking terribly pleased with herself tonight. I don't understand how they know 'where' to lay - egg was in the nesting box but by the look of the floor of the henhouse she'd done a lot of walking around there first. Have now put another couple of inches of aubiose in nesting boxes so as she's more comfortable.
