Impacted crop ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Bluebell has had problems since we got her starting with mycoplasma which she and the rest of the newbies were treated for.

However, yesterday morning she woke up with a hard crop, gave her 1 ml of cod liver oil and massaged her crop.

By the evening it was squidgy but she went to bed early after passing a soft egg. Incidentally, she has been laying a few of these recently and quite often lays double yolkers (even a triple once !!). Molly chicken had a hard crop too, she had the same 1 ml of oil and she is fine now. Molly and Bluebell are the main hoovers when it comes to treats.

This morning she did not come out of the house to begin with, looked a bit sorry for herself and her crop is hard again

I have given her another does of oil and another gentle massage and have made an appointment at the vets for 6.30pm this evening. She didn't eat her breakfast whilst I was there, though managed to come slowly down the slope for a few meal worms. Having looked up the problem yesterday, too many treats can be a cause but we always make sure that they have had enough mash and usually include chopped grapes in this and give them a broken up cabbage leaf.

I am worried that the original problem has effected her crop muscle. Do you think this likely ?

Best wishes

Liz
