A recent integration of two younger hens to an older group of three was going well until tonight - on being rounded up into the run earlier than usual, head chicken Beyonce flew at spirited youngster Frango, pecking her very hard in the head near her eye. Frango's eye/side of her head is now swollen and she's clearly not feeling very happy, being a bit hunched and quiet.

They're all in the coop, older girls on top perch, younger ones in their usual positions on the lower perch, but am not sure if should bring her indoors, or if there is anything can do about the swelling? There were a few specks of blood so have gently rinsed her head with water.

Appreciate any advice.

I'd get it checked out by a vet in case there is damage to the surface of the eye. If untreated it could get nasty quickly. Eye injuries are jolly sore too.
