sorkycake
One of my girls is very skinny. what can I do to feed her up a bit? She has Smallholder Layer Pellets and corn of an afternoon, plus access to the garden all day. Any advice?
bevmatt
Firsstly I would try find out why she is skinny.... I would definately check for mites and lice... Then I would worm. Then I would mix some oil in with her feed - I use omega oil or linseed oil available from corn merchants. Give her some poultry spice. Perhaps give more corn than you have been doing although not necessarily a good thing as the poultry pellets are a well balanced feed. I am sure if you try the above she will be putting the weight on in no time. Good luck.
Aggienator
What type is she? A lot of the lying hybrids are skinny, and some breeds are more skinny than others. Does she seem well or ill? Is her comb a good colour and is she good and active? If she is well and at her "design weight" you don't want to make her fat. I have only limited experience, but have read (I think on this board) of people taking laying hybrids to a non-specialist vet and being told their hen is underweight and ill when she is just right for her breed type! sorkycake
Ah, thank you. She's a Coral Nick. No mites/lice etc. She has had sniffles/cold but looks good now. She's behaving normally & comb is a good colour. Nothing to suggest she is poorly. I'll worm them all though just to make sure. Thank you
