Chooks eating less..

Recommended Posts

Morning! Not had my girls long really, not in colder months, do they eat less when it's colder? My girls are having same amount of mash( which they've always had) but am finding they are leaving around a quarter whereas they would nosh it all by lunchtime, so have stopped treats for a couple of days but still the same. They just don't seem ravenous like they usually do?All very healthy and happy.Laying very well too.

Just wondered if they do eat less due to less daylight hours?

Hi Powerlady I would't worry unduly as they appear healthy and are laying. I think you are doing the right thing by withdrawing treats.

Is it possible that they are getting other food from free ranging - bugs, worms, mice, frogs ....

Is it possible that other animals were eating some of the chickens' food before, but have now stopped, for some reason?

Good Luck ;)

They do free range for as long as possible..but then they always have done..possible the owner of the land I keep them on is giving them treats, and always had problem with rats ( yuk!)so not sure really.

I do feel a meanie not giving them their treats..they look up at me with their chickeny eyes and make me feel AWFUL!
