sweet-chick
HI, i'm new to keeping chickens, i have 3 rhode island red hens which are roughly 26 weeks old and i have not had a single egg ... my hubby is loosing patience with them and says they're a waste of time as i have patiently raised them from chicks. Will i see eggs any time soon? will they moult this year as they are only young? They have a lovely enviroment, large coop and free run of the garden and are being fed layers pellets... what am i doing wrong? HELP! Powerlady
Are they stooping when you go near them? Are their wattles and combs red? They may do a slow moult but you may be lucky enough to get eggs before winter..but they do slow down and some stop in winter Only consalation is that they will lay eventually, just gotta be patient..just remind hubby that when they DO come, they will be out of this world Good luck. Egluntyne
With it being late -ish in the season, and with them being pure breeds, which tend to mature more slowly, you may be unlucky and not see any eggs till the spring time.
