Why are my hens not roosting?

Recommended Posts

I have a new girl,Cupcake, who is getting used to the brood. She has been keeping her distance and being respectful and hasn't had much pecking or squawking from the established three. She has had her own food and water while they get to know each other. I have had her just over a week now. Each night I slip her into the "Go" with the other birds from where she perches. She has yet to be in there without me putting her there. All to be expected I thought then just now I went down to put them all together again, and one of the established chickens was standing outside the "Go" ,closed down as they are when it is dark, not moving. Put her back in too and locked up run [they live in a Tony with the door left open].

So What is going on? Any ideas? :?:!gogreen!!bee!!bee!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggblue!

Some chooks just like living al-fresco :lol: , even when it gets cold :roll: . Was it your boss hen still outside? When you don't have a cockerel, often the top female will take on the cockerel roll. when my boy is not running with the girls, my boss hen takes on his roll and stands guard in his place :lol::lol: . She is always the last to bed too, to check all is well.

Or it could simply have been, that she was too busy playing, didn't notice it was getting that dark, and got caught out and fell asleep where she stood :D .

Let us know what happens next, they never cease to surprise
