Charlie7
I'm planning to get day old chicks to put under a broody at some point and I can't make up my mind on which one of the two girls would be the best mother. Pandora is the dominant one. She is much more brave than Apple and almost never gets scared. She pecks a little at Apple, but not much. Apple has a fear of being alone. Even when Pandora goes inside the Eglu to lay an egg, she begins to call Pandora loudly and pace back and forward in the run. Apple is more caring then Pandora. I have seen her collecting hay in the garden and putting it in the nesting box, a behaviour I haven't seen in Pandora. Apple is generally very nervous. Every time she hears a loud noise she quickly runs over to Pandora, who barely notices it. Concerns if Pandora will raise the chicks: Apple may miss Pandora and get very stressed. From what I have seen Pandora isn't as caring as Apple and may reject to take care of the chicks. (Well, I don't think that she will, but the chance of her rejecting them is bigger than with Apple.) Concerns if Apple will raise the chicks: As I said, she is very nervous and may not be the best role model. She might teach the chicks to be scared of everything. She isn't very confident either, it may be too much for her to handle. Who do you think I should pick? Edit: Forgot to write that Pandora may be aggressive when broody, she has pecked me before. I was taking her out of the Eglu to clip her wing and she didn't like that, so she pecked me quite a few times.
