Our first duck egg! - What do we do now??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Following on from my initial post on 'New Call Ducks'. I think Google has laid her first egg today. When I got home from work, I noticed the remains of an egg lying on the lawn at the foot of a tree. The shell is a light shade of olive and approx the size of a regular hens egg. I'm assuming it was Google that laid it as it seems rather large for a Call Duck egg!

As there is a fair chance that the Drake has been at her, what do we do with any other eggs that she may lay as we would really love for her to have some babies! We do not have an incubator so we would have to use natural methods for the time being, unless one of our hens suddenly becomes broody!

Should we gather up all the eggs and wait for her to start sitting?

Regards, fujcube
