thegamwellsmythes
Hi, Apologies for the subject title. One of our two chickens is looking a bit unhappy (hunched up) and I think is doing white runny poos. She is eating OK. They get to free range everyday all afternoon. We noticed this yesterday evening when she was looking sleepy but she still looks hunched up this morning. Has anyone got any ideas? The other chicken looks fine. They are due to be wormed about now. Ta for any information. Paul and Jane
Chucky Mama
When did she last lay and how old is she?
thegamwellsmythes
She last laid at the weekend and she's about 16 months old. She never lays as frequently as the other chicken.
thegamwellsmythes
Another thought. She has taken to making nests in the garden and laying her eggs outside the run when she gets the chance. Not sure if this could be connected or not.
Chucky Mama
She may have a soft shelled egg on the way which can make them feel pretty rubbish. It usually take an a maximum of 2 days to pass so if she is brewing a softie. In the meantime make sure that she is eating and drinking which may mean tempting her with some porridge/weetabix or mash - all made with water not milk. I small amount of probiotic yoghurt wont hurt. Have a look over her for mites and lice too just to cover that angle. I would see if she picks up after her next egg before worming her. thegamwellsmythes
Okey dokey. She does lay more soft eggs than the other one. We've tried introducing some oystershell but they aren't that interested. As you say maybe there's one on the way. She has been eating the porridge mash we give them every morning and grazing on the lawn. Maybe she's caught a few too many worms. I'll mix some bio yoghurt into the porridge. I think a bit of apple cider vinergr in the water as well. Ta for the advice.
