Yes, spray the bold patch and anywhere else they tend to peck and that should deter them from pecking it again. It's also good at stopping wounds getting infected. I'd recommend wearing gloves as the purple colour does stain easily.

 

You can get it here- http://www.animalmedicationdirect.co.uk/gentian-violet-spray-240ml-pr-3170.html - which is the cheapest I've found so far, although you might find it cheaper on ebay.
