FoxFighters
My Miss Pepperpot will be 3 in December (approx) and at the beginning of the year had started to lay eggs with quite rough shells. A couple of months ago she seemed to pack up and now only lays the odd softee, probably one every 2/3 days. To start with she seemed quite poorly, off her food and generally 'not right' but now she seems back to normal in all aspects (apart from the eggs) My question is has she stopped laying for good, or is it worth trying her on some calcium supplement, though I don't want to screw up her kidneys or anything! She has access to grit and oyster grit, the other chicken is laying fine. They've both been wormed etc. I'm more than happy if she's gone into egg retirement, I just don't want her to be poorly. What do people (who know more than me!!!!) think?
Olly
Take a look here at ChuckyMama's thread about her experiments with calcium etc.
FoxFighters
Thanks Olly, I had already had a quick look. As I mentioned in my original post I was just worried about overdosing her on Calcium and the associated problems, if they out weighed the benefits etc etc. If she was just bowing out gracefully (from egg laying) I don't want to force the issue! Chickens are soooooo complicated!!!! You think everythings going great and then something ELSE happens!!!! Love 'em
