Gnashercat
We have two pepper pot type hybrids which we got as pol 2 1/2 years ago. The first year they laid loads of eggs. The next fewer but still plenty but they haven't laid an egg since last autumn. They appear very healthy with beady eyes and red combs. There is no sign of parasites, their poos are firm (as firm as a chicken gets anyway), they eat well and are generally very happy. They are kept in the run to midday with waterr, layers pellets and grit and then have the run of an acre of garden in the pm. They come in before dusk to some grain before bed. They don't appear too fat as I can easily feel the breastbone so I am stumped as to why they are not interested in laying. Any ideas? Millihelen
We also have 4 miss pepperpot hybrids which we got at pol in Sept 2008. We haven't had any eggs for over a month and I wormed just in case a couple of weeks ago. I think two of them might be broody - during the day they snuggle into hollows in the ground and hardly move until bedtime - then they all try to get into the nesting box at the same time. If it is not broodiness, I am at a complete loss - what ages should they lay till? We are having to *buy* eggs now!
