Duck info needed please!!!!

Recommended Posts

I have decided on ducks. I have a few questions i simply couldn't ind answers to:

1. Do ducks need grit?

2. Is it too cold for them? last year we got -10 at night in winter!

3.What exactly would you need? I know the basics, but can't find any good duck sites. I need a checklist, really...

4.Any good duck suppliers in the south east? I hate online scammers.

(duck)(duck)(duck)(white duck)(duck)(white duck)(duck)(white duck)

Thanks,

Raven.

I have decided on ducks. I have a few questions i simply couldn't ind answers to:

1. Do ducks need grit?

I gave mine a nice tub of grit, but they have never eaten it! I suspect they find plenty in the pond and free-ranging. If yours are more restricted then I guess they might take it.

2. Is it too cold for them? last year we got -10 at night in winter!

It got to -8 in the winter here and they were fine! A bit cross that their pond kept freezing, but otherwise fine!

3.What exactly would you need? I know the basics, but can't find any good duck sites. I need a checklist, really...

I guess the basics are house (I have a green-frog duck/goose house), bedding - I use a nice layer of Aubiose in the house, food bowl - I use an old plastic dog bowl, drinker - one they can't climb in preferably as they'll get it filthy in 5 mins flat, pond/paddling pool - all ducks LOVE to have a good splash! Plus food - I use chicken layers, but you can get specific duck food if you prefer. I also swear by Bio-dri - it dries up any damp (not soaking wet!) patches and eliminates any whiffs. - Can't think of anything else off the top of my head!

4.Any good duck suppliers in the south east? I hate online scammers.

I found my ducks from an ad on the feed-store wall... always a good place to start!

Good luck!
